Celebrating Our Volunteers

Published on:

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re proud to celebrate and say thank you to the incredible volunteers at Citizens Advice Middlesbrough.

Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Every day, they give their time, skills and compassion to support people through difficult situations, helping them find their way forward – whoever they are, and whatever their problem.

As one volunteer shared:

“I wanted to do something to help people… I thought that volunteering would be very rewarding and also interesting.”

Through their dedication, volunteers support clients to achieve positive outcomes, often in situations where help might not have been possible otherwise.

“It’s always great when you can help a client achieve a positive outcome with an issue, especially in cases where that would not have been possible without our help.”

Building Skills, Confidence and Experience

Volunteering with Citizens Advice Middlesbrough doesn’t just make a difference to our community – it also supports our volunteers to grow and develop.

Several volunteers speak about the confidence and skills they have gained:

“Volunteering whilst studying has helped to improve my confidence and develop my communication and problem‑solving skills, which I know will be transferable to any future roles I undertake.”

Others highlight the value of gaining experience while contributing to a cause they care about:

“Volunteering has helped me upskill and gain valuable experience that supports my career goals – while contributing to a cause I care deeply about.”

Support, Connection and Community

Our volunteers are part of a supportive and welcoming team, where learning and connection are part of everyday life.

“I get lots of support here, I enjoy learning something new every day, and the folks at Citizens Advice are really good company.”

Volunteering can also have positive benefits for wellbeing:

“Volunteering has been incredibly rewarding, both mentally and physically. It helps me stay active, engaged, and connected, while making a real difference in the community.”

Making a Real Difference

At its core, volunteering is about helping people through difficult moments – and there is real satisfaction in knowing you’ve played a part in that change.

“It’s really satisfying when I can help somebody overcome a big problem in their life.”

We are incredibly grateful to all our volunteers for the difference they make every day.
